How far did Auburn fall in the latest USA TODAY Sports re-rank?
Auburn football's recent rough patch has caused it to spiral in the latest USA TODAY Sports 1-136 re-rank.
The latest re-rank, compiled by USA TODAY Sports' college football writer Paul Myerberg, has Auburn at No. 48 following its 16-10 loss to Texas A&M last weekend, which is a 13-spot drop from last week's ranking. Auburn began the season at No. 49 in Myerberg's adapted rankings, and resided as high as No. 30 after its win over Ball State before sliding to its current place at No. 48. This week, Mississippi State is one spot ahead of the Tigers, and Boise State occupies the space directly below them.
The two teams to beat Auburn this season, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, reside in the top six. The Aggies moved up four places to No. 4 while Oklahoma gained ground by advancing one place to No. 6. Georgia, Auburn's next opponent, fell six spots to No. 7 after its home loss to Alabama last weekend.
Ten SEC teams have a place within the re-rank this week. Ole Miss leads the conference at No. 4, gaining six spots after beating LSU at home last Saturday. After Ole Miss are Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Georgia at Nos. 5-7, and Nos. 13-18 occupied by Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, LSU, Texas, and Vanderbilt.
The Tigers are gearing up for a much-needed bye week before hosting Georgia on Oct. 11 for a night game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
