Injured Packers Josh Jacobs, Brandon McManus inching closer to playing against Vikings

GREEN BAY – Josh Jacobs is inching closer to being available this week when the Green Bay Packers host the Minnesota Vikings, but there’s still work to do.

The Packers running back will participate in individual drills at the start of practice Nov. 20, something he did not do a day before. From there, the team will determine how Jacobs’ injured knee is feeling before deciding if he can continue with practice.

“We’re going to warm him up through indi and just see how he’s feeling,” coach Matt LaFleur said.

Packers running back Josh Jacobs is tackled by Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke on Nov. 16 at MetLife Stadium.

LaFleur said earlier this week Jacobs’ status will be a true game-time decision. He might have a better feel for the Packers’ kicking situation.

Starter Brandon McManus kicked in practice Nov. 19 and is expected to kick again Nov. 21.

“He had a really good day,” LaFleur said.

Quay Walker injury update

Linebacker Quay Walker is expected to practice after not participating Nov. 19 because of a stinger. LaFleur said it will be a pivotal day in determining his status against the Vikings.

“He’s feeling better,” LaFleur said, “and we’ll see how he feels today before we make a decision where he's at, but certainly he's a guy who's very, very important not only to our defense but our entire football team."

Injury update on Matthew Golden, Savion Williams

The Packers are in the same situation with rookie receivers Matthew Golden and Savion Williams as they've been the past couple of weeks. Golden was limited in practice Nov. 19 because of a shoulder injury, running routes in individual drills without catching passes, while Williams did not participate because of a mid-foot sprain.

LaFleur hopes there will come a point this season when the rookies are able to do more in practice, but he anticipates both will need to handle a light practice load for the time being.

"It is challenging," LaFleur said, "but we're not the only team dealing with it. So you've just got to make the best out of whatever the situation and try to give them as much as you can in regards to if they're not out there getting the full-speed reps, then you've got to kind of double down on the walk-through reps, or whatever it may be."

LaFleur said he's pleased with how Golden is handling the limited practice reps in preparing for game day.

"I think he's done a great job. It's important to him," LaFleur said. "When he goes out there, he's doing a great job of executing and owning his responsibilities. So I haven't foreseen it being a problem."
