Iowa football shares injury update on WR after win vs. Rutgers
The Iowa football team has dealt with numerous injuries through the first month of the 2025 season.
From losing starting wide receiver Reece Vander Zee just days before the season opener to seeing multiple running backs go down with various injuries, the Hawkeyes have seen their depth tested early in this season.
Two more players went down with injuries in Iowa's 38-28 win over Rutgers to kick off Big Ten play. Junior running back Jaziun Patterson left early with an ankle injury and didn't return to the game. Iowa was already down freshmen Xavier Williams and Brevin Doll in that room, and just got sophomore Kamari Moulton back. Ferentz didn't seem too concerned about Patterson's injury, so hopefully he will be able to return soon.
The Hawkeyes also saw senior wide receiver Seth Anderson leave the game early with an injury after he was in the blue medical tent. Luckily for Iowa, it doesn't seem like it's anything serious for Anderson.
"Well, we’ll find out. They both got ankles I think. Didn’t seem too bad, but you never know until (further evaluations). I’m not sure a plane ride helps you with a joint, but hopefully in a couple days here. I’ll probably know that Tuesday," Ferentz said of Patterson and Anderson with the media following the win.

Anderson didn't have a reception against Rutgers, but had two touchdown catches last week against UMass. With Vander Zee and Jarriett Buie also dealing with injuries right now, the Hawkeyes will rely on seniors Jacob Gill, Sam Phillips, and Kaden Wetjen, along with sophomore Dayton Howard, to fill in if Anderson has to miss time with this ankle issue.
Overall, it was good news on the injury front for a team that's been decimated with injuries this season. Fans will know more about both Patterson and Anderson as the week goes on.
