Jamestown Eagles falls 11-6 at Mandan Chiefs

Jun. 23—MANDAN, N.D. — The Jamestown Post 14 Eagles could not overcome a poor fifth and sixth innings, which ultimately cost them in an 11-6 loss to the Mandan Post 40 Chiefs on Monday, June 23, at the Chiefs' Veterans Memorial Ballpark.

The Chiefs scored four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to turn what was a 5-4 Eagles lead into an 11-5 Chiefs lead.

The Chiefs (5-9) opened the scoring in the first inning to go up 1-0 before an RBI groundout from the Eagles knotted the game up at one. The Eagles were able to take the lead in the third when Kale Verke hit a single to score a run and give his team a 2-1 lead before he was part of a double steal to get all the way over to third and he was subsequently brought home on a double to push the lead out to 4-1.

The Chiefs got the scoring started in the third with a triple to make it 4-2 before they added two more in the frame to tie the game up at four. The score stayed that way until the fifth when the Eagles (6-13) retook the lead with a run to go up 5-4 but a four run bottom of the fifth gave the hosts an 8-5 lead. They put the game out of reach with three in the sixth to take the aforementioned six-run lead.

The Eagles responded in the seventh when they loaded the bases for Edison Walters who took one for the team allowing Hudson Rode to score and trim the deficit to 11-6.

The Eagles are back in action at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, when they host the Bismarck Govs.
