Jets discuss plan to use both Breece Hall and Braelon Allen in backfield

New York Jets starting running back Breece Hall lost some carries to then-rookie Braelon Allen last season. Hall rushed for a team-high 876 yards and a career-low 4.2 yards per carry. Allen burst onto the scene by rushing for 334 yards and two touchdowns.

Hall is hoping for a bounce-back season in a contract year, but a sophomore Allen still lurks in the backfield. With a new-and-improved offensive line, the Jets are hoping their ground-and-pound game, which finished 31st last season, is much improved this year. Dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields should help the Jets' rushing attack be considerably more effective in 2025.

While Hall and Allen will compete for carries, head coach Aaron Glenn is thankful for both of them.

"I told Breece [Hall] that receiving will be an element of his game that we're gonna try and make sure that we utilize, and Braelon, a 240-pound back that's always falling forward, that's where he's gonna make his money," Glenn said. "Just being able to downhill run, that's gonna weigh on defensive players, and when you continue to do that, you create something as far as a team, as far as an identity, that this league will take notice of, and I'm looking forward to that."

Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstand wants to field a balanced offense this season. It's imperative that both Hall and Allen are effective to ensure that strategy comes to fruition. The Jets are understandably excited about having both Allen and Hall in their backfield.
