Jets may already have succession plan in place at OC

The New York Jets' decision to hire Frank Reich as their new offensive coordinator was met with criticism. Their latest staffing addition is much more popular with fans.

The Jets hired Seth Ryan, son of Rex Ryan, to be their new passing game coordinator.

Ryan, 31, previously worked as an offensive assistant for the Detroit Lions. That means he learned under brilliant minds such as Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson and Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell.

If all goes well, Ryan could even emerge as the Jets' succession plan at offensive coordinator.

Reich brings a wealth of experience to the Jets' offensive coaching staff, something head coach Aaron Glenn lacked in 2025. The potential downside is the lack of innovation or adaptability when it comes to a 64-year-old coordinator like Reich. Well, the 31-year-old Ryan should help balance that out.

Ryan could assist Reich with modernizing his scheme. Reich should bring experience and stability. Ryan should bring innovation.

Together, they could create an offense that's more effective and unpredictable than what Tanner Engstrand fielded in 2025.

For Ryan to eventually become the Jets' OC, it's worth acknowledging multiple things have to go right.

Glenn has to succeed with the Jets for long enough to make another coordinator decision. It also means Reich departs in some fashion, as that's unlikely to be for another head coaching gig.

If all goes well, Ryan could offer the Jets coaching consistency.
