Jumpers host regional track championships
The Somerset Briar Jumpers hosted the 2025 Class 1A Region 6 Track and Field Championship meet on Wednesday, with the boys placing third as a team and the girls finishing seventh. The Jumpers were also able to claim a few regional championships in the process.
In the boys’ 100m dash, Tyson Absher finished second with a time of 11.30, while Nick Tharp placed third with a time of 11.84.
Absher also finished second in the boys’ 200m dash with a time of 23.23.
In the boys’ 400m dash, Eli Eastham finished second with a time of 53.90, while Bryson Stone finished fourth with a time of 56.27.
In the boys’ 1600m, John Lackey finished 11th with a time of 5:47.29.
In the boys’ 3200m, Lackey finished eighth with a time of 12:36.89.
In the boys’ 300m hurdles, Aiden Colyer finished fifth with a time of 48.36.
The team of Jackson Burgess, Tharp, Eastham and Absher won the regional title in the boys’ 4x100m relay, finishing with a time of 45.88.
The team of Kris Hughes, Eastham, Tharp and Absher won the regional title in the boys’ 4x200m relay, finishing with a time of 1:35.00.
In the boys’ 4x400m relay, the team of Stone, Burgess, Tharp and Eastham finished third with a time of 3:50.08.
In the boys’ high jump, Stone finished sixth with a height of 5-8.
In the boys’ long jump, Burgess finished fourth with a distance of 19-4, while Colyer placed 13th.
Burgess won the regional title in the boys’ triple jump, finishing with a distance of 42-5.75, while Colyer placed seventh.
In the boys’ pole vault, Jonas Blakeman finished third with a height of 12-0.
In the boys’ shot put, Landen Lonesky finished fourth with a distance of 37-11.50, with Zach Koger placing eighth.
In the boys’ discus, Koger placed 14th with a distance of 87-1.
In the girls’ 100m dash, Hannaha Boyer finished seventh with a time of 13.99, while Madilyn Brooks finished 11th with a time of 14.35.
In the girls’ 200m dash, Jocalyn Abney finished 18th with a time of 31.95, while Garrah Vanover finished 24th with a time of 36.50.
In the girls’ 400m dash, Maliyah Childrey finished sixth with a time of 1:10.25.
In the girls’ 4x100m relay, the team of Jaycee Cothron, Abney, Brooks and Boyer finished fourth with a time of 56.55.
In the girls’ 4x200m relay, the team of Abney, Childrey, Brooks and Boyer finished fourth with a time of 2:00.31.
In the girls’ 4x400m relay, the team of Cothron, Abney, Childrey and Boyer finished fourth with a time of 4:48.17.
In the girls’ long jump, Cothron placed third with a distance of 14-11.
In the girls’ triple jump, Cothron finished second with a distance of 31-0.
In the girls’ shot put, Serenity Haynes finished ninth with a distance of 23-4.50.
The top two competitors in each event at the seven region meets per class will automatically qualify for the state meet. The next 10 best times/heights/marks from the state at-large per class will also qualify for the state meet.
Those that qualified will next compete at the KHSAA State Championships at the end of the month.
