Karlyn Pickens injury update after Tennessee-Belmont softball game
Tennessee provided an update on senior right-handed pitcher Karlyn Pickens (6-0) on Wednesday. She started for the Lady Vols on Tuesday against Belmont.
Following pitching 1.1 innings, Pickens left the contest after experiencing shoulder discomfort.
"Karlyn Pickens suffered an arm strain during the Belmont game," Tennessee announced. "She was evaluated Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. She is currently listed as day-to-day."
Pickens totaled two strikeouts and 14 pitches, including nine strikes, against five Belmont batters. She allowed one walk and zero hits.
The 6-foot-1 pitcher has appeared in nine games, including six starts, for No. 1 Tennessee in 2026. She has recorded one save, 68 strikeouts and a 0.60 ERA in 46.2 innings. Pickens has pitched five complete games and one shutout this season.
Tennessee head coach Karen Weekly discussed Pickens' injury after Tuesday's, 1-0, win over Belmont.
“I honestly don't know, because you know the way things happen," Weekly said of Pickens' injury. "I mean I've just got to keep coaching the game, and staying locked into the game, and let the trainers and the doctors do what they need to do and find out what they tell us.
“I wasn't out there, but I just know that she had a little bit of discomfort and then threw a pitch and said she still felt the discomfort, and so we're going to make a change."
