Kerby Joseph injury update: Lions All-Pro safety status in doubt vs Commanders

Kerby Joseph injury update is not great for the Detroit Lions.

Coach Dan Campbell indicated Tuesday morning in his weekly radio interview on WXYT-FM (97.1) that Joseph, an All-Pro safety last year, could miss his third straight game Sunday against the Washington Commanders because of a knee injury.

“The irritation is not going away as fast as we had hoped,” Campbell said. “There is improvement, but it’s just not quite there yet and we’re not going to force this thing until we get it as calmed down as we possibly can because we don’t want to keep – if we can keep from it, we don’t want to have to revisit this every week once he comes back.

“Now, maybe that happens anyway, whenever he comes back. But yeah, we just, we were hoping it would resolve itself a little bit quicker, cleaner. It’s just not there yet.”

Joseph missed time in training camp with a knee injury then suffered a bone bruise in the same spot in the Lions’ Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns. He played through pain the next two weeks in games against the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs, then sat out games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings sandwiched around the Lions’ bye.

Joseph, who led the NFL with nine interceptions last season and signed a four-year, $86 million extension this offseason, has a team-high three interceptions this year.
