Lady Bulldogs win Ron Raver Relays title
Batesville hosted the second annual Ron Raver Relay Saturday to honor a former coach who game more than 60 years to the sport of track and field. Seven boys’ teams and six girls’ teams took to the track to compete for the team titles. The meet is set up with two athletes entered from each school in the field events. On the track, the 100 and the 110 hurdles were the only individual events. The remaining events are relays.
For the boys, Decatur Central won the team title with 104 points. Batesville was second with 92 followed by Franklin County 65, Jennings County 64, Rushville 40, Milan 19 and Tindley 2.
For the girls, Batesville won the team trophy with 103 points. Jennings County was second with 83 followed by Franklin County 81, Decatur Central 53, Rushville 38 and Milan 21.
Also, because Coach Raver relied heavily on managers because of his disabilities, the meet was paused in the middle and each team got the opportunity to honor one manager who was presented with a jacket of their school colors to thank them for all they do.
