Licking Valley baseball wins regional title, heads to first state tournament

CHILLICOTHE — The Licking Valley baseball team is headed to its first state tournament.

Valley beat Circleville 6-2 at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe on June 6 to win the Division III regional championship. The Panthers play Hamilton Badin at 10 a.m. June 13 at Canal Park.

Evan Roberts struck out nine and walked just one in a four-hitter. He was backed by strong defense at second base from Zane Hancock.

Brandt Lichtenauer and Cameron Sopher had two hits apiece, and Silas Kyle and Evan Lichtenauer each knocked in a pair of runs. The Panthers scored single runs in each of the first three innings before scoring three in the top of the sixth.
