Local Roundup: Meadville's Ferry ties for win at Marquette Invitational

WOODCOCK TOWNSHIP — Meadville sophomore Luke Ferry tied for the lead at Tuesday’s Marquette Invitational hosted by The Country Club.

Ferry’s 70 tied Cathedral Prep’s Connor Laird for the top prize. In the field of 145 golfers, Meadville turned in three of the top six scores.

Fellow sophomore Patrick Mahoney tied for third with a 71 and Elliott Konetsky tie for sixth with a 73.

As a team, Meadville finished third with a total of 303. Cathedral Prep won the tournament with a 298 and Fairview placed second with a 302.

Saegertown finished fourth with a score of 310. All four golfers fired a sub-80 round. Tyler Cherpak led the way with a 75, Mason Gjovik (78), Everett Gardner (78) and Ryder Bailey (79) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers.

Conneaut placed 26th. Robert Gowetski led the Eagles with an 85. Caiden Loucks (91), Owen Grafton (97) and Zach Wilson (117) also scored for Conneaut.

Conneaut sweeps Tidioute

TIDIOUTE — The Conneaut volleyball team swept Tidioute Community Charter on Tuesday (25-18, 25-10, 25-11)

Kori Bova racked up 16 assists, three aces, three digs and one kill. Kaidence Hays had six aces in the win and scored five assists and one dig. Carman Bowman led in the digs category with eight and added one ace. Courtney Perrye had seven kills to lead the team.

Conneaut also won over General McLane in a non-region game in in five sets (25-23, 19-25, 16-25, 25-18, 15-11) on Monday.

Bova tallied 43 assists, 12 digs, three aces, two kills and one block to led the way for Conneaut over General McLane.

Conneaut is now 5-1 overall and hosts Maplewood in a Region 2 game on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Bulldogs narrowly sweeps Erie

ERIE — The Meadville volleyball team took down Erie in a Region 5 sweep on Tuesday (25-23, 25-17, 25-19).

Ella Gordon put up 32 assists for Meadville, while also adding two aces. Grace Bliss had 11 digs and two aces and Julia Miale led the team in kills with 11.

Meadville is now 2-3 overall and in Region 5 play. They travel to McDowell for another region game Thursday at 7 p.m.

Maplewood dominates Eisenhower

RUSSELL — The Maplewood volleyball team swept Eisenhower in a Region 2 match on Tuesday (25-17, 25-3, 25-8).

Lilly Stevenson led the offense with 10 kills. Bree Neely and Samantha Stanford also contributed kills, seven and four respectively. Maggie Means dished 26 assists and Lexy Potosky had 12 digs.

Maplewood is now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in region play. The Tigers visit Conneaut Thursday at 7 p.m.

Cochranton loses close match

ERIE — The Cochranton volleyball team fell to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in Region 2 play, after its five-set loss to Erie First Christian on Tuesday (25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 12-15).

Claire McCartney and Karmyn Reese both had double digit kills and digs. McCartney had 14 kills and 13 digs, while Reese had 13 each. Maggie Jackson and Addison Custead also tallied digs, Jackson had 16 to go with her 32 assists and Custead had 15 with six aces. Alaina Shorts and Jaidin Frayer each scored eight kills.

Cochranton hosts Saegertown on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Blue Devils fall in four

ROCKY GROVE —The Cambridge Springs volleyball team lost to Rocky Grove 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-12, 27-25) in a Region 2 match on Tuesday.

Bridget Bullock paced the offense with 14 kills. Kenda Boozer dished 35 assists and Carly Cunningham added 20 digs.

The Blue Devils are 0-1 in region action and 2-3 overall. They host Tidioute Charter on Thursday for more region play.

Meadville wins on senior night

The Meadville girls soccer team defeated Franklin 2-0 on Monday in a Region 6 game at Bender Field on senior night.

Gianna Araujo and Zenobia Moutsos each scored for the Bulldogs. Naveen Shaw and Isa Lopez each had one assist. Emma Hild and Moutsos combined for a shutout.

Meadville is 6-3 overall and 1-1 in region play. The ‘Dogs will host Warren today for another region game.

Chargers fall in big loss

The Crawford Christian soccer team fell on Monday to Grove City Christian 6-0. The Chargers were missing players and were forced to make multiple lineup changes.

Grove City controlled the entire first half scoring four of its six goals.

Changes at halftime for Crawford Christian helped quell the storm, giving the Chargers chances off corner kicks. The Chargers let in two more goals in the second half.

Crawford Christian hosts Heritage Christian on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Crawford Christian sweeps two matches

The Crawford Christian volleyball team played in two matches recently, sweeping both. On Friday the Chargers played CCSI winning 25-15, 25-13, 25-8. On Monday they took down Slippery Rock Homeschool 25-19, 25-19, 25-22.

Anna Held held the way for the Chargers over the two games with 27 service points, including 12 aces and 20 assists. Brooklyn Keyser also stood out scoring five kills and three digs in their Monday win.

Crawford Christian travels to Jamestown on Thursday with varsity set to start around 7 p.m.
