Longhorns five-star flip target decommits from Oregon
On Tuesday, the Longhorns got good news regarding one of their targets in the 2026 class. Five-star edge rusher Richard Wesley recommitted from Oregon. Wesley's decision comes after he announced that he will be taking official visits to Texas and Ohio State in June. While he also has a trip planned to Oregon, it seems that he is starting to consider other options.
The California native is ranked as the No. 2 edge and No. 3 player in California in the 2026 class by 247Sports. During his high school career, Wesley has made headlines with his play, which programs nationwide have taken notice of. That is partly why he has become a priority for the Longhorns.
Over the last two years, Wesley has recorded 94 tackles, including 27.5 for a loss. He has also added 18.5 sacks to his resume in that span. Wesley has been a popular player for teams looking to add another star to their defense. The California native has shown he can carry a defense with his stellar play.

The Longhorns 2026 class consists of five stars like quarterback Dia Bell, athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr., and long-snapper Trott O'Neal. They will be joined by wide receiver Chris Stewart, cornerback Hayward Howard Jr., offensive tackle Max Wright, and offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson. Adding a player of Wesley's caliber to that class would provide a significant boost.
Wesley has impressed scouts from coast to coast, including 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins.
"Shows off natural pass rush ability and can dominate the run game as well. Flashes a quick get-off, uses his hands well, and can bend, dip, and explode off the corner," Biggins wrote. "Strong at the point of attack and shows off a nice physical edge in his game. Loves the weight room and has the multi-sport background we like to see in an edge rusher as well.
In just a few weeks, the Longhorns will get Wesley on campus with a greater chance of adding him to their defense and future plans.
