After what was a tough start to the season, the Seattle Mariners have successfully ridden the ship of their struggles, managing to sit only a game and a half back of the Athletics for the top spot in the American League West.

Some of this success could be attributed to the offensive heroics of Randy Arozarena, who is slashing .289/.381/.439, or the ramp-up of the offensive production of Cal Raleigh, who has gotten his home run tally up to seven entering Friday night’s action.

It’s worth noting that the Mariners have been succeeding without one of their more productive pieces on the offensive end, Brendan Donovan, who has been out since mid-April due to a left groin strain.

In the 18 games that Donovan has appeared in so far for Seattle, he is hitting .304/.437/.518 with three home runs and eight RBIs to his name.

Donovan to begin rehab appearances next week

While he’s been missing for some time, it appears that he could be making his return to the Mariners soon, as it was announced that the 29-year-old will be sent out on a rehab assignment with the Double-A Arkansas Travelers.

According to Seattle’s General Manager Justin Hollander, Donovan will be a part of the team for two matches in the coming days, and could make a return to the Major League roster depending on how the appearances go.

“He’ll [Donovan] will play Tuesday and Wednesday at Arkansas, and if that goes well, he’ll join us in Chicago after the off-day on Thursday… Really positive how Donny has progressed through this, probably not going to be activated for this homestand.”

For now, all eyes will be on Donovan’s appearances in Arkansas on Tuesday and Wednesday to see if he’ll make the jump back up to the big leagues.

First pitch between the Travelers and the Tulsa Drillers on Tuesday night is slated for 6:05 p.m. CDT.
