MSU DL Jalen Thompson highlights depth improvement on opening day of fall camp

Depth was a concern for the Spartans last year, but that shouldn't be an issue for Michigan State football in 2025.

A hot button item discussed on opening day of fall preseason camp for the Spartans on Tuesday was depth. Head coach Jonathan Smith was asked about it and noted how he's feeling better about where the Spartans are at in depth compared to last season. That same message was shared by Spartans defensive lineman Jalen Thompson.

According to Emmett Matasovsky of Spartan Shadows, Thompson stated that he feels "like our one's, two's and three's can play, and you don't feel a difference" or drop off. If true, this is a notable development for the Spartans who struggled with depth and injuries derailing the season late last year.

Michigan State will officially open the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on FS1.
