Nation's top recruit makes announcement ahead of upcoming commitment

Five-star offensive tackle recruit Jackson Cantwell is ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the nation, per 247Sports. Now, he is ready to announce his commitment.

The Georgia Bulldogs have previously been named as a front-runner for Cantwell, who has set his commitment date for April 30. The five-star is considering the Oregon Ducks, Miami Hurricanes, Ohio State Buckeyes and Georgia.

The 6-foot-8, 300-pound offensive tackle has ideal size for a player at his position. Cantwell plays high school football for Nixa High School in Nixa, Missouri. He is the top ranked recruit in Missouri and the No. 1 offensive lineman in the nation.

Nixa's Jackson Cantwell as the Eagles took on the Republic Tigers at Nixa on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024.

"Said that for a reason… Almost home!" Cantwell said after announcing his commitment date. The five-star has excellent strength and can bench over 500 pounds. Cantwell has the ability to play as a true freshman wherever he lands, which is pretty rare for an offensive lineman.

The Nixa standout is also a track and field athlete. Cantwell throws shot put and discus and is following in the footsteps of both of his parents, who are former Olympic athletes in throwing events. Track and field programs are certainly a factor in Cantwell's decision.

Cantwell's decision date announcement is a blow to Missouri and Michigan, who were both previously in his top six. Cantwell has official visits planned with each of his top schools. He plans to visit Miami on May 9, Missouri on May 31, Georgia on June 6, Michigan on June 13 and Oregon on June 20. The five-star is projected to commit to the Miami Hurricanes, per 247Sports.
