New York Jets vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3 key matchups to watch
The 0-2 New York Jets will face another sizable task in Week 3 when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The perfect 2-0 Buccaneers have executed come-from-behind victories in both their games. They are dealing with significant injuries across their offensive line, a storyline Aaron Glenn's Jets could potentially exploit.
With that, here are Jets Wire's three matchups to watch ahead of Week 3:
Sauce Gardner vs. Mike Evans
This is quite literally the definition of good-on-good. Mike Evans has been the league's most consistent wide receiver for 10-plus years and Sauce Gardner is a legitimate shutdown cornerback. We anticipate Gardner traveling with Evans and covering him on a snap-by-snap basis.
Brandon Stephens vs. Emeka Egbuka
Unfortunately, putting Gardner on Evans could mean that Bucs explosive rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka gets matched up with Brandon Stephens. Stephens' Jets tenure is off to an incredibly disappointing start, and the free-agent addition needs to improve fast. Meanwhile Egbuka has produced three touchdowns in two games as an instant contributor.
Quinnen Williams vs. Michael Jordan
The Buccaneers are dealing with various injuries on the offensive line. The most recent bit of unfortunate news saw right guard Cody Mauch suffer a season-ending knee injury. Practice squad call-up Michael Jordan is expected to get the nod at right guard. The Jets need to let Quinnen Williams feast.
