NFL Draft stock report, buy rating: Oregon Edge Matayo Uiagalelei
After a 34-14 win at Northwestern, Oregon coach Dan Lanning told the media: "we got a lot of guys who can make plays."
That is certainly an understatement. When you're the #4 team in the country, you're bound to have talent and depth at every single position.
Oregon has "dudes" when it comes to their backs, receivers, all the "glamour" positions. However, they also have elite talent and high end NFL Draft prospects in the trenches, and everywhere else too.
Matayo Uiagalelei is as fine an edge rusher as you'll find anywhere in college football, and he really brought it today. Uiagalelei had three tackles, two solo, one sack and one pass defense at Northwestern Medicine Field, on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Oregon linebacker Bryce Boettcher described what makes the explosive defensive end/outside linebacker so special:
"Consistency man, he's twitchy, it starts with what he does in practice too, the amount of shoulder rotation he gets, his moves off the edge, he's an offensive tackle's worst nightmare, so we're happy to have him on our team."
That's true, he is an opposing OT's worst nightmare. Northwestern has a lot of talent at the position, so the 20-year-old junior put in a big performance today against one of the tougher matchups, at least on paper, on the schedule this season.
There will be plenty of even tougher assignments for Uiagalelei as the season rolls on, and that will provide more opportunities for him to further improve his already impressive draft stock.
Right now he looks like a high first-rounder, and rising.
