No. 4 Hampshire, No. 5 Petersburg girls lose
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Hampshire battled to within single digits in the fourth, but Martinsburg held off the fourth-ranked Trojans to win 53-37 on Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs led 17-4 after a quarter and 25-12 at the half. Hampshire (3-2) got back into it with a 16-12 third period to trail 37-28 after three.
Della Knight scored six of her team-high 12 points for Hampshire in the third.
Martinsburg's Aviyanna King took over in the fourth with 10 of her 13 points coming in the period to guide the Bulldogs to victory. Tianna Sanabria and Zianna Lomax also finished in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Ava Call added eight points for Hampshire.
Hampshire hosts Lincoln on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Tucker Co. 54, No. 5 Petersburg 43
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Tucker County used a strong first half to defeat fifth-ranked Petersburg on Tuesday night.
The Mountain Lions led 19-11 after a quarter and 33-18 at the half. Petersburg (3-2) controlled the second half 25-21, but it was too little too late.
Miley Tingler paced Petersburg with 13 points, and Quenlynn Cole added 10.
Makenna Evans topped Tucker with 15 points, followed by Addi Moats with 13 and Izzy Kitzmiller with 10.
Petersburg hosts Union (0-4) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Vikings' holiday tournament.
