The New York Rangers have signed veteran forward Conor Sheary to a professional tryout deal.
The move, first reported by Mollie Walker of the New York Post, reunites him with new head coach Mike Sullivan, under whom he won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Sheary, 33, is looking to revive his NHL career after a rough stint with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Last season, Sheary played just five NHL games and spent most of the year in the AHL.
Playing for the Syracuse Crunch in the minors, Sheary tallied 61 points in 59 games. Before a mutual termination of his contract with Tampa Bay, Sheary had one season remaining on a three-year, $6 million deal.

The Rangers signed Sullivan to a five-year contract, per ESPN's Emily Kaplan, back in May. Sullivan's hiring followed the firing of Peter Laviolette after two seasons at the helm.
New York has been searching for additions to bolster the depth of its bottom-six forward group. The move follows the key departures of veteran forward Chris Kreider and young defenseman K’Andre Miller.
With several young players in the mix for roster spots entering the 2025-26 season, Sheary’s experience and past success could give him an edge, although his PTO deal doesn't guarantee his place on the final roster.
In 593 career NHL games throughout 10 NHL seasons, Sheary has scored 124 goals and recorded 267 points.
Sheary also has 23 points in 72 playoff appearances, with his most productive postseason runs coming in 2016 and 2017 under Sullivan, when he helped the Penguins capture back-to-back Stanley Cup titles.
