Ohio State football is nominated for an ESPY and you can help by voting

One of the things that happens after winning a championship is the extra notoriety and awards that come after the fact. Shortly after the Ohio State football team won the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff national championship, talk shows, podcasts, and other media outlets took note and had head coach Ryan Day and others be a part of the parade of glowing moments to commemorate.

Now, over five months from winning the ultimate prize, Ohio State is up for an ESPY as "Best Team." The ESPYs have been around since 1993 and are sports' answer to what the Oscars are for movie actors and what the Grammys are for musicians.

It's no shoo-in that Ohio State will take home the honor that will be handed out on July 16, and in fact, it's more likely that it won't as opposed to walking across the stage. However, you can help with that by voting for yourself. All in all, there are 22 categories that you can go through and cast your vote on by visiting ESPN and making your voice heard.

Other teams OSU is up against include UConn women’s basketball, the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team, UNC women’s lacrosse, the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Liberty, Los Angeles Dodgers, Florida Panthers, and Oklahoma City Thunder. It'll be a tall order for the Buckeyes to win, but why not cast your vote and get the word out to help bring a little Scarlet and Gray to the ESPYs in a couple of weeks?

If Ohio State can spring the upset and win the award, it'll be the third time the program has been recognized with an ESPY. Eddie George took home the "Best College Football Player" ESPY in 1996, and OSU and Miami (FL) won the "Best Game" ESPY in 2003 for the classic Fiesta Bowl that resulted in the Buckeyes taking home the BCS national championship at the end of the 2002 campaign.

Even if Ohio State doesn't win, the ESPYs are a great way for sports fans to kill some time and reminisce over what happened over the last year of sports. Tune in and enjoy the ride.
