NORMAN — OU announced Monday it will honor the 1985 national championship Sooners team during its game against Kent State on Saturday, Oct. 4.

This season marks the 40th anniversary of OU's 1985 national title. Former Sooners coach Barry Switzer, players, coaches and support staff members from the 1985 squad will be recognized on Owen Field at halftime.

Switzer led the 1985 team to an 11-1 record and a Big Eight title. OU defeated top-ranked Penn State 25-10 in the Orange Bowl.

Linebacker Brian Bosworth, noseguard Tony Casillas and defensive end Kevin Murphy were first-team All-Americans in 1985. Bosworth won the first of two consecutive Butkus Awards as the nation's outstanding linebacker and Casillas earned the Lombardi Award as the country's outstanding lineman.

Switzer, Bosworth, Casillas, tight end Keith Jackson and defensive back Rickey Dixon are all members of the College Football Hall of Fame.
