Panthers WR Xavier Legette apologizes after being ejected for fight in preseason opener

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette punched out from the preseason opener rather early.

The second-year pass catcher was ejected in the first quarter of Friday night's exhibition outing against the Cleveland Browns. Legette and Browns cornerback Rayshawn Jenkins got into a bit of a scuffle during the Panthers' second offensive possession of the game, with both receiving penalties and the ol' heave-ho from the officiating crew just eight minutes in.

The 24-year-old Mullins, S.C. native also didn't take long to apologize for his actions—as he hit Twitter/X shortly after being tossed to deliver the following message . . .

Legette, the 32nd overall selection of the 2024 draft, is now in his second NFL campaign. His rookie season yielded some mixed results, as he totaled 49 receptions for 497 yards and four touchdowns.

The Panthers ended that drive on a 5-yard touchdown connection between quarterback Bryce Young and Legette's fellow second-year receiver Jalen Coker.
