The Penguins avoided elimination with a hard-fought 4-2 victory in Game 4 of their first-round series against the Flyers. Pittsburgh delivered its most complete performance of the NHL Playoffs with four different players scoring goals and Arturs Silovs totaling 28 saves.

However, the Pens still have plenty of work to do if they want to complete a miraculous comeback. They remain one loss away from elimination, and an NHL team hasn't pulled off a reverse sweep since 2014.

The series will now shift back to Pittsburgh for Game 5. With the home crowd behind them, the Penguins will try to chip away at the Flyers' lead and send the series back across the state for Game 6.

Penguins vs. Flyers live updates, highlights from Game 5

8:17 p.m.: The Battle of Pennsylvania is living up to the bargain.

At the first commercial break in the second, the Penguins lead 2-1, and both teams are pressing for the next goal.

Penguins 2, Flyers 1

8:12 p.m.: Six seconds after Dewar made it 2-0, it's 2-1.

Alex Bump takes a pass off the faceoff, goes left to right then forehands it past Silovs, and just like that, the lead is cut in half.

Both teams have scored early in the second.

Penguins 2, Flyers 0

8:11 p.m. GOAL: The Penguins started the second period on the front foot, and they have a goal to double the lead.

Connor Dewar rips a shot and though it looks like it might have hit the post, it's a clear goal. After a short review, it's confirmed, and the Penguins have a 2-0 lead.

Pittsburgh has momentum after Dewar's second goal of the series.

8:07 p.m.: The second period is about to begin from Pittsburgh.

The Penguins lead 1-0 heading into the middle frame.

End of the first period: Penguins 1, Flyers 0

7:49 p.m.: It's a high-paced end of the first, with both teams getting chances, but it remains 1-0 Penguins come the end of the first.

The Penguins lead on Soderblom's goal, with Vladar making 10 saves and Silovs making nine. The crowd is into it and Pittsburgh has life.

Expect the second to have the same intensity.

7:44 p.m.: Though the Penguins had a few chances on the power play, the best chance came from the Flyers' Christian Dvorak, who had a breakaway that was saved by Silovs.

Both teams are now 0-for-1 on the man advantage tonight. Pittsburgh is 0-for-8 on the power play at home.

7:37 p.m.: Now, the Penguins will go to the power play.

After a shift in offensive zone time, Garnet Hathaway takes a tripping penalty and a scrum ensues.

7:27 p.m.: Mantha had the primary assist on the first goal and he has a chance here, and after Vladar can't get a rebound there's chaos in front of the Philadelphia goaltender. But, the puck stays out.

7:22 p.m.: The Penguins are back to even strength, allowing no shots on goal while a man down. Seven minutes in, and shots are 5-1 Philadelphia, but the Penguins lead 1-0.

7:19 p.m.: Philadelphia will have the first power play of the night. It's Sam Girard going to the box for Pittsburgh, who gets called for tripping right off the faceoff.

The Flyers have scored two power play goals this series, both coming in Game 3.

Penguins 1, Flyers 0

7:15 p.m. GOAL: One shot, one goal, and the Penguins strike first in Game 5.

It's Elmer Soderblom who gets the goal, ripping a one-timer from an Anthony Mantha pass over Vladar's glove. Just like that, the Penguins have lit PPG Paints Arena on fire.

For the first time this series, Pittsburgh leads at home.

7:13 p.m.: A minute in and Silovs makes a save on Alex Bump, then the next possession makes one on Denver Barkey.

The Flyers have been the better team in the opening minutes, putting three shots on goal to Pittsburgh's zero.

7:10 p.m.: We are underway in Pittsburgh as the Penguins look to stay alive.

Philadelphia has the first shot attempt, but it's to the left of Silovs.

7 p.m.: It's the top of the hour, and puck drop is moments away.

Through four games, the Battle of Pennsylvania has lived up to every expectation. Now, the teams return to PPG Paints Arena with much different stakes.

For the Flyers, a win would cement their place in the second round for the first time since the 2018-19 season. The Penguins, with a win, will live to see another day.

So, will the Penguins extend the season? It's time to find out.

6:54 p.m.: If the Penguins are going to extend the season and get their first home win in the series, they need to find a solution for Dan Vladar.

Before Game 4, the Flyers goaltender, who put up career highs in almost every category in the regular season, let up just four goals in three games, including a shutout in Pittsburgh in Game 2.

6:52 p.m.: Noel Acciari spoke to Dan Potash before the game about the keys to success.

6:51 p.m.: Philadelphia has healthy scratched one of its expected playmakers.

Matvei Michkov will officially not be in the lineup.

6:49 p.m.: We're getting closer to puck drop at PPG Paints Arena.

6:42 p.m.: Pittsburgh has taken the ice for warmups, and as Erik Karlsson said, "Let's have fun."

6:30 p.m.: The Penguins are back in front of their home crowd, looking to force a Game 6.

6:21 p.m.: Let's set the scene for tonight.

6:11 p.m.: On Saturday night, the Penguins got in the win column for the first time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The opening goalscorer was none other than Sidney Crosby, who scored his first playoff of the series.

With the win, Crosby became the fifth active player in the NHL to have 100+ career postseason wins.

6:05 p.m.: The Penguins are on-site ahead of tonight's contest.

6 p.m.: It's do-or-die for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who enter Game 5 at PPG Paints Arena trailing the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1 in the series.

Pittsburgh got its first win of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs in Game 4 over Philadelphia by a score of 4-2, but still faces an uphill battle after losing the first three games of the series. But, after one win and the series shifting back to Western Pennsylvania, expect Dan Muse's team to get a boost from the home crowd.

Follow along for live updates throughout the night as the Penguins try to keep their season alive.
