Rams QB Matthew Stafford ready for 'another good battle' against Lions in Week 15
Part four of the Matthew Stafford vs. Jared Goff matchup returns in 2025 as the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions face off in a Week 15 showdown at SoFi Stadium.
Even though both sides are four years removed from the blockbuster trade that sent Stafford to the Rams and Goff to the Lions, the revenge element never really goes away. And after L.A. beat the Detroit in the first matchup back Week 7 of 2021, the Lions have taken down the Rams in each of the past two meetings (both of which were at Ford Field), most recently in a Week 1 overtime thriller in 2024.
Stafford is ready for a home game version this time around. He told NFL Network during the 2025 schedule release show Wednesday night that this game will be "another good battle" after being on the road the past two times.
“That’ll be fun,” Stafford said of the matchup. “We’ve had some great matchups. Dan and Jared and those guys did a hell of a job the last couple years getting that thing turned in the right direction. They’re playing really good football. Lost some coordinators and that’s a challenge. Every season is a new season when you step out there and go play. Definitely had some great matchups the last couple years against those guys. It’ll be interesting having it in our place in December. I’m sure it’ll be another good battle.”
Stafford was good against the Lions in those games, with 684 total passing yards, three passing touchdowns and one interception. But his play wasn't enough to pull out victories as the Rams lost by a combined seven points.
But with another year of development for a young defense, a new interior defensive linemen and new pass-catcher in Davante Adams, Stafford and the Rams have to hope their team is ready to take on one of the better clubs in the NFC in a late-season matchup.
