Red Bull KTM Confirms Chase Sexton Split

After two years filled with impressive performances, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing announced on Wednesday that Chase Sexton would not be returning to the team via a thank you post. Sexton's departure from KTM after two years with the organization has been one of the top headlines of silly season, dating back as far as the end of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season.

Sexton joined Red Bull KTM prior to the 2024 season after winning his first Supercross championship with Team Honda HRC in 2023. He won a muddy San Francisco main event in his second start with the team and added another main event win at Salt Lake City to end his first Supercross season on an orange machine. The 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship marked Sexton's magnum opus with KTM. He won seven overalls, including the last six rounds of the season to secure his first Pro Motocross title and KTM's first since Ryan Dungey took his third 450MX title in 2015.

2025 started with a bang, as Sexton won the Supercross opener at Anaheim. Six other main event wins followed, including four victories at the last five rounds. Despite the late surge, Sexton missed out on the championship by two points as Cooper Webb won the title. Rumors began swirling during Supercross about Sexton's possible departure from KTM, with the frequent use of a backwards factory KTM hat becoming common as the season progressed.

Tensions increased during the summer, where Sexton showed great speed but suffered a pair of rough crashes. He started the Pro Motocross season up front at the Fox Raceway opener, but hit the ground hard after removing his goggles a short time into the opening moto. The crash kept Sexton out of action for four races. He returned for his home event at RedBud and quickly got up to speed, becoming the first rider to knock Jett Lawrence from the top step of the overall podium with a masterful ride at Washougal. Unfortunately, disaster struck one round later at Ironman. A first moto win put Sexton in prime position for a second consecutive overall win. However, a nasty crash caused by debris interfering with the rear brake sent Sexton to the sidelines. He returned for the playoffs but ended his two year stint with KTM riding on a medical cart at Las Vegas after a nasty faceplant, sustaining damage to his shoulder.

While there were a number of ups and downs during the Sexton/KTM partnership, the stint ended with 17 wins and 36 overall podiums. Sexton has been linked to Kawasaki's factory organization for a while and a new partnership may be confirmed in early November.
