Report: New York Giants' Micah McFadden to miss 'significant time'

The 2025 NFL season is only one week old, but there's not a lot of good news surrounding the New York Giants already.

The latest involves inside linebacker Micah McFadden, who was carted off the field in the first quarter of the Giants' 21-6 loss to the Commanders in Washington last Sunday with a foot injury.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports that McFadden, the Giants' leading tackler last season, will miss significant time this season. The exact injury has not been disclosed, but it will require surgery.

McFadden is likely to return at some point this season, the source said.

McFadden was injured Sunday while making a tackle on Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. His right leg was placed in an air cast, and he was taken off the field on a cart.

This is a huge blow to the Giants, who were hoping to leverage McFadden with their other inside linebacker, Bobby Okereke, to form a top tandem.

McFadden is also in the final year of his rookie contract. A solid and healthy season would have gone a long way toward earning a second contract with the team.

McFadden was a fifth-round pick out of Indiana back in 2022 and has gradually turned himself into a reliable and productive starter on the Giants' defense.
