Report: Ty Simpson studied 'a ton' of Rams and Matthew Stafford at Alabama
The Los Angeles Rams decided to find Matthew Stafford's successor on Thursday night, selecting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick in the NFL Draft.
It does appear that the Rams picked up a player ready to take charge if needed, as Simpson has been putting in the work and preparing for this moment.
According to Alabama Crimson Tide beat writer Nick Kelly, who covered Simpson during his collegiate career, Simpson already has an understanding of the job he will likely inherit in the near future. He reportedly studied "a ton" of the Rams offense and Stafford in college during the 2025 offseason, which is fitting because he now plays for Los Angeles.

Being the son of a coach, Simpson's strengths come from his intelligence and work ethic. Using Stafford and the Rams as a teacher from afar, Simpson now has the opportunity to learn from them in-person, providing the franchise with a potential succession plan from their MVP passer that could lead to another seamless transition from a legend.
Time will tell if it works out, but at the very least, Simpson has a good grasp of what Los Angeles tries to accomplish offensively.
