Scottie Scheffler Makes More PGA Tour Golf History at Byron Nelson
Scottie Scheffler's first win of the 2025 PGA Tour season saw him make history as he tied the all-time 72-hole scoring record in a dominant victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
The two-time Masters winner was at his brilliant best at TPC Craig Ranch, just over 30 miles away from his hometown of Dallas, posting a remarkable score of 31-under-par to tie the all-time record.
But that was not the only history Scheffler made in recording an eight-shot victory over Erik van Rooyen, that win marking his first since a four-shot triumph at last year's Tour Championship at East Lake.
Scheffler went wire-to-wire in ending his drought, becoming the first player to achieve that feat in nearly two years.
Prior to Scheffler's excellent showing, Lee Hodges was the last player to go wire-to-wire on the PGA Tour, doing so at the 2023 3M Open.
Scottie Scheffler is the first player to go wire-to-wire on TOUR since Lee Hodges (2023 3M Open).
Scheffler is the third wire-to-wire winner in CJ CUP Byron Nelson history, joining Mark Hayes (1976) and Tom Watson (1980).— PGA TOUR Communications (@PGATOURComms) May 4, 2025
Scheffler is also the third player in the history of the Byron Nelson to go wire-to-wire, emulating one of the game's all-time greats.
Mark Hayes was the first to achieve that feat at the event in 1976, with that achievement matched by eight-time major winner Tom Watson in 1980.
Despite the incredible start to his career, Scheffler still has some work to do to match Watson's resume. His next opportunity to add to his major tally will come this month at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
