Second-Year Eagles Linebacker Speaks Out on Competition

Second-Year Eagles Linebacker Speaks Out on Competition originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

With Jihaad Campbell and Nakobe Dean nursing injuries for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, the team is turning to a familiar face to help stabilize the linebacker room.

Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the son of the former All-Pro of the Eagles in the 2000s, has worked almost exclusively with the first team during offseason workouts.

As mandatory minicamp gets ready to start, the Eagles believe that Trotter is more than deserving of these first-team reps alongside of All-Pro Zack Baun.

The second-year special-teamer out of Clemson knows that he still has to compete, though.

“Everybody in that room is competing, and we're helping each other, sharing our tips and knowledge back and forth," Trotter Jr said to NBC Philadelphia. "Trying to bring each other along, and when you do that, and you try to compete with the guy right next to you, that only helps.

"You improve your game. So I'm really happy to be a part of a situation like that. It’s not like that everywhere.”

Trotter has his work cut out for him at this point. No matter what he does, the Eagles will push to get Campbell and Dean on the field as much as possible as starters.

All he can do is go through workouts at a high level and be ready for when his number is called. ... as is happening now in these sessions.

After all, he's just an injury or two away from being on the field for every down with the Eagles this season.
