Saturday's quarterfinal game between Japan and Venezuela couldn't have gotten off to a more exciting start with home runs from Ronald Acuna Jr. and Shohei Ohtani, but the Japanese lineup took a hit at the end of the first inning.
OF Seiya Suzuki was forced to exit the game after coming up injured after being caught stealing, forcing Japan to change its strategy much earlier than expected. Shota Morishita entered the game for Suzuki, who started in centerfield.
The injury was a bad sight for Chicago Cubs fans as well, as Suzuki his 32 home runs and drove in 103 runs on the North Side last season.

Suzuki came up limping after being caught stealing to end the first inning on Saturday, but it wasn't immediately clear what the exact injury was. Suzuki was tagged near the ribcage, but he also appeared to hit his knee into the base during the hard slide.
After Japan's medical team came over to take a look at him, Suzuki walked off without assistance but had a pronounced limp. Morishita took his place in centerfield for the top of the second inning.
