Social media reacts to Nebraska facing Troy in the NCAA Tournament
Nebraska men’s basketball will be headed to Oklahoma City as the No. 4 seed to take on No. 13 Troy in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The two teams will meet on Thursday at 11:40 a.m. CT on truTV.
Nebraska (26-6, 15-5 Big Ten) lost to Purdue in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament. Troy (22-11, 12-6 Sun Belt) defeated Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt Tournament championship game.
Nebraska men’s basketball has a complicated history with the NCAA Tournament. It has made eight appearances in school history and are 0-8. Nebraska is the only power conference school that has never won a March Madness game.

Physical play
Watched about 10 minutes of Troy.
Thomas Dowd and Victor Valdes do stand out. Both average about 15 PPG. And they have size, at 6’7 and 6’8. Dowd a double-double per game.
Nebraska will have to match the physicality, but that can be said for any tournament game.#Huskers— Jake Bartecki NCN-TV (@bartecki_jake) March 15, 2026
Some fans are not high on Nebraska
Other South notes
Troy upsets Nebraska in the first round. And I like VCU over UNC.— Phil Murphy © (@Phil_Sports) March 15, 2026
Fans do not like the seeding
Nebraska higher than St Johns is just poor.

Conference tournaments should have meaning over games in November.— Hurley Derangement Syndrome (@joe_divivre) March 15, 2026
People are excited about the Southern region
South region is literally anyone’s region. I feel like Florida is the weakest 1 seed, plus Illinois, Nebraska, and Vanderbilt are some DAWGS for their seed lines— Dylan Engler (@CoachDEngler) March 15, 2026
Tough and gritty
Asked an assistant coach who faced Troy in the non-conference for his thoughts on the Trojans. Here’s what he told me.
- Tough, gritty team.
- Lost their starting center right before the Sun Belt tournament
- Great at defending the 3, similar defensive principles to Nebraska.— Jacob Bigelow (@JacobABigelow) March 15, 2026
