Steelers’ Historic 35-Year Streak Ends In Brutal Fashion Vs. Texans

The Pittsburgh Steelers had plenty of reasons to feel confident entering Monday night’s Wild Card Round game against the Houston Texans at Acrisure Stadium. After all, they hadn’t lost at home on a Monday since Oct. 14, 1991.

Unfortunately for the Steelers, that 23-game winning streak came to a brutal end this week at the worst possible time as they suffered their first Monday home loss in 35 years.

Pittsburgh jumped out to an early lead on Chris Boswell’s first-quarter field goal and kept the game close for most of the evening, holding the Houston Texans to just seven points through the first three quarters. With the Steelers down 7-6 entering the fourth quarter, the game seemed poised for an exciting finish.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. Pittsburgh suffered a historic implosion, getting outscored 23-0 as the Texans scored three touchdowns, including two defensive TDs off Aaron Rodgers’ turnovers. When the dust finally settled, Houston was the one advancing to the Divisional Round with a 30-6 rout.

It was a disappointing ending for the Steelers, who were unable to capitalize on their home-field advantage. The crowd was into it and brought plenty of energy and noise despite the cold weather, but fans can only do so much from the stands.

Several streaks/trends continued for Pittsburgh on Monday, including the team’s postseason losing streak. Unfortunately for the Steelers, their incredible Monday night streak wasn’t one of them.
