The New England Patriots released Stefon Diggs this offseason, clearing over $16 million in cap space. Diggs remains unsigned and can still be a contributor on a contender.

Plenty of teams could use some help in their wide receiver room, and Diggs could be a veteran presence to guide some young players. He posted a 1,000-yard season coming off a torn ACL and was a key part of the Patriots' offense. While he could help plenty of teams, his signing with the Kansas City Chiefs may make the most sense.

The Chiefs already have Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy. Worthy and Rice both had under 600 yards last season, but Rice played in just eight games. Rice has not been reliable so far in his career. Injuries and off-the-field issues have raised some doubt about his ability to be a No. 1 receiver.

Diggs is dealing with his own off-field problems right now, but he could be a great addition to the Chiefs' receiving corps. Coming off a torn ACL, Patrick Mahomes could use all the help he can get. Diggs could emerge as a great option for Mahomes. He may not be the same deep threat he once was, but he can still torment defenses over the middle of the field.

Diggs proved he can still produce at a high level last season. The Chiefs need a proven weapon for Mahomes. Travis Kelce is also not what he once was, so adding another weapon makes a lot of sense for the Chiefs. They did not have their best season last year, but nobody is expecting them not to be contenders next season.

Mahomes will be back, and Andy Reid is too good a coach to miss the playoffs in back-to-back seasons with a quarterback as good as Mahomes.
