In the high-stakes theater of the NFL, the Super Bowl is often decided by inches, but for the superstitious and the statistically inclined, it can be decided by the threads on a player’s back.

As the New England Patriots prepare to face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium, the conversation for some has shifted from the playbook to the wardrobe. For a team, the choice of a uniform is a blend of branding, psychological armor, and a desperate nod to the "white jersey curse" that has haunted designated home teams for over two decades.

Beyond the win-loss columns, these uniforms serve as the visual identity of a franchise's soul on the world’s biggest stage. In a game where the margins are razor-thin, the psychological edge of feeling "unbeatable" in a specific kit can be the difference between a championship ring and a quiet flight home.

Here's more on what each team is wearing for the big game.

This year, the Patriots — acting as the home team — have reportedly opted to lean into the math rather than tradition, choosing to wear their white-on-white road combination.

Teams wearing white jerseys have won 16 of the last 20 Super Bowls, including a current stretch where the "road" look has become a near-requirement for hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

In the final five of New England's six Super Bowls of the Tom Brady era, the Patriots wore white, winning four out of five. When New England wore its blue uniforms, it went 2-2.

With the Patriots opting to wear white-on-white, Seattle will don its all-college navy home uniforms, a decision that leans into the franchise's most dominant era while simultaneously tempting fate.

The "College Navy" kit is the most successful combination in team history, boasting a regular-season and playoff record of 70–30 since its debut in 2012. It was the armor of the "Legion of Boom," and for Mike Macdonald's squad, these jerseys represent the peak of Seattle’s physical, defensive identity.

However, for the superstitious side of the 12s, the choice brings a nervous chill. While the all-navy look was worn in the 2013 and 2014 NFC Championship wins over the 49ers and Packers, it was also the uniform worn during the heartbreaking final seconds of Super Bowl XLIX — the very game this Super Bowl LX matchup is destined to avenge. In fact, Seattle is 0–2 in Super Bowls when wearing their primary dark jerseys (losing in navy in XLIX and the older "Seahawks Blue" in XL).

Patriots record in white jerseys

New England finished the 2025 season with a perfect 9-0 record in their white tops, including a historic 8-0 regular-season road sweep.

In the white-on-white combo, the Patriots are 5-0, including the 10-7 AFC championship victory over the Broncos and a "Sunday Night Football" win against the Ravens.

The Seahawks wore the monochromatic navy-on-navy combination six times throughout the regular season and playoffs, finishing with a perfect 6–0 record in those games.

When expanding to the blue jerseys, the one loss Seattle had was back in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. In that game, the Seahawks wore grey pants.

The most emphatic statements in these jerseys came during the postseason: first, in the 41–6 blowout of the 49ers during the divisional round, and again in the 31–27 NFC Championship victory over the Rams.
