Texas Football prepares to build on past SEC success

Following a 3-1 start, the Texas Longhorns now have their eyes on SEC play. That begins this weekend against a Florida team that is 1-3 through four games. While the Longhorns' schedule so far has not been the most challenging, they have thrived in conference play since joining the SEC.

Entering Week Six of the college football season, Texas is 7-2 all-time in SEC play. During the 2024 campaign, they recorded wins against Arkansas, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Florida, Mississippi State, and Oklahoma. The only team they struggled against was Georgia, which was one of the best teams in the country. 

As the Longhorns chase a national title, they will have to replicate their success from last year. They are set to face the same SEC opponents from the 2024 campaign and will get two chances at revenge against Georgia. Currently, Georgia, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, and Texas A&M are all ranked in the top 25. 

Through the first month and a half of the season, Texas is the only team in the SEC that has not played a conference game. That will change quickly, and how the offense performs could determine where they stand when it is all said and done. The defense has been terrific, allowing 24 points in 16 quarters. 

As the defense has shined Arch Manning and the offense has struggled to find their rhythm. They have scored at least 38 points twice but struggled with turnovers and slow starts at times. Against their conference foes, that is not a combination that will lead to wins. 

In a highly anticipated matchup with Florida, Texas can make a statement with a dominating win against one of its most formidable opponents yet.
