I’ll be honest, I despise fantasy kickers, but, I also love real life kickers. The reason I dislike fantasy kickers is because they have very little control over how they are used from week to week. Even the best of the best aren’t going to consistently put up good numbers for kickers. Then, you have to look at just how easy it is to find a kicker off waivers each week who is in a good spot. If you have a real sicko league that were to start two kickers, that’s when you’d have to get serious about drafting them. Thankfully nobody in their right mind would do such a thing.

When choosing a kicker each week you want them to be in perfect weather, be on the favorite’s side, and not Abe in the coach’s dog house. You can also go deeper, looking into the defense’s stop rate in the red zone or just how many field goal attempts they allow each week. That’s really about it.

Kickers are getting better as well. We just saw Cam Little hit a 70-yard field goal in the preseason. There is no doubt the record of 66 yards will be broken sooner than later, as more and more kickers are capable of doing so. So, we often need to think about other things than a kicker’s ability when deciding which one to start from week to week.
