UNC basketball announces Caleb Wilson suffered fracture in left hand
The North Carolina Tar Heels lost more than the game on Tuesday night at Miami. With star freshman Caleb Wilson leaving the game and returning with a wrap on his left hand, the news just a few days later about his injury isn't good.
The university announced on Thursday that Wilson suffered a fracture on his left hand during the first half of Tuesday's loss at Miami. There is no timetable for Wilson's return as the program is still evaluating the injury.
During the game, X-rays were negative and allowed Wilson to return to play later in the second half. However, when the team got back to Chapel Hill, additional imaging done revealed the fracture in his hand.
The freshman has been UNC's best player this season, leading the team with 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. He has set UNC freshman records by scoring in double figures in all 24 games to begin his career and with 17 20-point games.
The Tar Heels will now look to replace the production lost by Wilson in hopes of keeping their season alive. UNC returns to the court on Saturday when it hosts Pitt.
