USC basketball teams sweep Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors
This past week was a great one for USC basketball. Both the men’s and women’s teams went 2-0, with three of the four victories coming on the road.
On Monday, the Big Ten announced its honors for the week. The Trojans swept the Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards, with Alijah Arenas winning it on the men’s side and Jazzy Davidson taking it home on the women’s side.
It was a heck of a week for Arenas. In just the fifth game of his college basketball career, he scored 29 points against Indiana last Tuesday. Then on Sunday, he hit the game-winning shot with less than a second remaining to take down Penn State.
For Davidson, it is her second week in a row earning freshman of the week honors, and her fifth time this season. She scored over 20 points in both of the Women of Troy’s victories last week.
Both the men’s and women’s teams have seen significant injuries to their veteran stars this season. As the result, they will need to lean heavily on freshmen standouts Arenas and Davidson as the regular season enters its stretch run.
