Vote for the 2024-25 Akron-Area High School Girls Coach of the Year

With the Akron-area OHSAA 2024-25 sports season complete, we're going to spend the next several months looking back at the best of high school sports during the school year.

Your votes will determine the Akron-Area Best of the School Year for teams, coaches and athletes.

This week we want to know who you think was the best high school girls coach for the 2024-25 school year. Each coach's credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 5 p.m. July 3. The winners will be announced in the morning July 4 on BeaconJournal.com.

Now, let's meet the candidates, who were selected by the Beacon Journal sports staff.

Akron High School Athlete of the Week

Here's a look at the nominees for the Akron-Area Girls Coach of the Year, in alphabetical order: 

Margie Anderson, Hudson lacrosse

Hudson compiled a 21-1 overall record and made a Division I state semifinal appearance.

Mary Becker, Highland golf

Highland finished fourth in the Division I state tournament. The Hornets won won Suburban League American Conference and sectional championships, and finished fourth in their district tournament.

Javier Iriart, Walsh Jesuit soccer

Walsh finished as the Division I state runner-up with a 21-0-1 overall record.

Jim Morehart, Manchester softball

Manchester compiled a 24-6 record and made a Division V state semifinal appearance. The Panthers won the Principals Athletic Conference championship before their run to the state final four.

Allyson Wines, Wadsworth volleyball

Wadsworth made a Division II state semifinal appearance and finished with a 24-3 overall record. The Grizzlies won the Suburban League National Conference before rolling through the postseason en route to state.

Bill Zufall III, Highland soccer

Highland finished as the Division III state runner-up with a 21-2-1 overall record. The Hornets won Suburban League American Conference before advancing to the state tournament.
