The Detroit Lions filled one of their biggest needs by agreeing to terms with former Carolina Panthers center Cade Mays. Though he’s only started 27 games over four seasons, Mays’ career has clearly been on the upswing. Initially an injury replacement for Austin Corbett at center in 2025, Mays remained at the pivot for the rest of the season, even when Corbett returned from his injury (and moved to guard).

Mays seems like a well-liked guy, but there was certainly a mixed feeling amongst Panthers fans on Twitter. Some believed it was a reasonable deal for the Panthers to offer, while others believed Carolina can upgrade the position.
