Top trade candidate Luis Robert Jr of the Chicago White Sox has been faltering in 2025, with a .177 batting average and .553 OPS. Since May 25, Robert is in the midst of a 1-for-20 slump and hasn't homered since May 2.

Robert's performance got so bad that he was sent to the bench on Tuesday and Wednesday to correct his mechanics.

Robert was slated to be in the lineup Thursday, but was hit in the head by a ball during batting practice that ricocheted off the top of the cage in a scary incident.

White Sox manager Will Venable announced that despite missing Tuesday and Wednesday, the incident with Robert was bad enough that he would be held out of the lineup. 

Robert is expected to be back in the lineup Friday for the opening game of a three game set against division rival Kansas City Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field. 

The hope is that the latest extension to Robert's time off won't cause further problems with his headspace. 

After not dealing Robert during their historically bad 2024 season, the White Sox were heavily rumored to deal Robert this season. If Robert's performance doesn't improve, however, they may not get any worthwhile deals from contenders in July.

With Robert sitting out on Tuesday, the White Sox beat the MLB-best Detroit Tigers 8-1 with Michael A. Taylor's three-run home run and Austin Slater's two-run double powering them to a surprise victory.
